Our mission is to provide equal opportunity for all persons with special education needs (SEN) and/or physical disabilities to enjoy various sports and exercise and improve their quality of life

At Special Sports we develop personalised sports and exercise programmes that support our students to grow towards their full potential.

By taking the time to understand our student’s unique challenges and personalising activities to their abilities, we aim to build a community where our students can build confidence, improve their physical and mental wellbeing whilst socializing with their peers through adapted sports and exercise.

We take great pride in our tailor-made courses that are designed with our Learners in mind to ensure that no one is left out.

Will these programmes benefit my SEN/D Child?

We understand that progression for our students does not always follow a straight path. We believe that all of our students can benefit from physical activity regardless of the personal challenges they face. We strive to develop the right activities and motivations that provide the opportunity for anyone to develop through physical activity.

We also recognize that involvement in sports and exercise benefits not only the body but the mind too. That’s why our lessons are designed for our students to develop both from the Primary Health Benefits of exercise (i.e. physical development and health improvement) and also from the Secondary Health Benefits of exercise (i.e. social and self regulatory skills development).

OUR CLASSES

What type of class would most benefit my child/our Centre?

Whether your child is already an experienced athlete, never tried sports before or even has been reluctant to participate in other sports classes, we are confident that we will be able to provide a programme that suits them.

Our classes are broken down into 4 categories:

The Fundamentals of Sport and Movement

A course designed by our Founder which introduces SEN students to the basics of ball games and motor skills. Typically for younger students or those being introduced to sports for the first time or for those with less experience in this area.

Personalised Fitness and Mobility Training Classes

Personal training for our SEN students. Much like typical personal training - the goal is to improve the health and quality of life of our students. The training takes the specific health needs of the student in mind (i.e. weight loss, increased mobility, emotional and sleep regulation) and delivers the training in a way that's enjoyable and appropriate for the SEN student’s developmental level.

Adapted Sports Classes

We have developed a series of sports classes around most major ball and racquet sports for our SEN students who are unable to participate in mainstream sports classes. Through the use of easy to understand drills and clearly defined goals, we use these sports classes to get our students more active and to introduce to them the concepts of key social skills such as teamwork, effective communication, self regulation, self motivation, inhibitory control and self monitoring skills. Although we recognise it’s not always possible - a major objective for these programmes is to provide a framework that will allow our students to eventually enter mainstream sports classes.

Sports and Exercise Day Camps

Hosted during most regular school holidays and priced efficiently - our day camps are a good way for students and parents to experience our programme. The day camps are held in the morning and content is drawn from our other 3 regular programmes. It’s a great way for new students to be introduced to our programme or for existing students to try new activities and meet new friends.

Our Motivation

Our goal is to ensure that any individual, regardless of their challenges, has the opportunity to improve the quality of life of their and their family’s life through the benefits of sports and exercise. It is important for us that every class has a healthy balance between fun and challenge to ensure the process of growth is beneficial as well as enjoyable for our students.  

Through our founder’s lived experience of having a younger brother with SEN and a lifetime of involvement in the SEN community of Hong Kong; we understand the importance of dedicated teachers and coaches and the impact they can have on student’s lives.
