Adapted Sports Classes

These classes are comparable to typical sports classes but the activities are broken down into developmentally appropriate components with clearly defined goals. The main sports provided are football, basketball, rugby, volleyball, hockey, handball, swimming as well as a series of racquet sports. It’s a great way for students to build a strong foundation in a sport or to develop their skills in the sports further. Although we understand it’s not always possible - our goal is to develop our students up to a level in which they can “graduate” from our course and enter a mainstream sports class.

In these classes students will:

  • Develop their hand-eye coordination and gross motor skills whilst learning fundamental skills required in the sport
  • Develop their social skills through learning teamwork and developing communication that is typically used in the sport
  • Build a positive relationship with sport and exercise

These types of classes can take many different forms:

  • They are often provided to centres or schools as a form of physical education class or extra-curricular activity for the students
  • They can take the form of 1-on-1 or small group classes for private clients
